Requirements

For Pinczker’s Bioprodukte the central requirement of a software system was to be able to incorporate data into the system at each step in the chain of custody of organic grain. All the data concerning the goods, from the farm to the retailer, needed to be documented non-bureaucratically and directly at the point where the action happens. In addition, all documented data, needed to be accessible at any time. Another essential requirement was the ability to exchange certification data electronically with the organic certification body. In the storehouses an electronic “storage book” for the documentation of stock movements was necessary. It had to be easy to use, even for staff without any IT experience.

A substantial part of the project with Pincker’s Bioprodukte was consulting and developing a concept of its needs. Based on the results of the conceptual phase a customised version of the Internet based software Flowweb was developed. Along with Pinczker’s Bioprodukte several storehouses, certification bodies and the producer organisation “ARGE Bioregionen” were also involved in the project.
 
Using Flowweb the storehouse business partners are able to capture the receipt of goods, the changing of storage location, processing steps and stock removals. An intelligent batch tracing system links the transactions, and displays them graphically in a “batch tree”. In case of quality issues automatic notices are sent out to the responsible people, making it possible for them to take immediate action.

Today Flowweb is not only a documentation and traceability tool. It also supports marketing and helps to consolidate the market position and client loyalty.
