Religious certification schemes like Halal and Kosher are raising attention

Halal certification is a growing market in the food certification sector. RIKILT Institute in the Netherlands recently published a paper predicting that in the near future nearly 20% of all food production will be under certified Halal standards. Kosher certification is also a growing market, but is regionally focused on the US market and Israel.

Commissioned by Intact, Organic Services, Intact’s global sales partner, initiated an evaluation project to determine the use of Ecert for Halal and Kosher certification. Ecert is a workflow driven, certification management system that facilitates audits and certification processes for certification bodies. Although the Halal and Kosher standards are not based on ISO processes, Ecert could contribute significantly to reduced costs in administration and cut down on the time between audit and final certification.
